I’m Bored, Text Me!
by jared on Aug.06, 2009, under Blogs, Jared Callan, iPhone App Review
If you’re like me, then you are a text whore. I live on my phone. For example, I’ve answered about ten texts since I started writing this review.
“How do you ever get anything done?,” you ask.
I have no idea.
I’m a social networking whore, as well. I like anything that connects me with other people, and today’s app does just that.

It combines two things that I love: texting and meeting new people.
“How does it work?,” you ask?
I’m going to tell you.
The name of the app says it all. I’m Bored, Text Me! I feel this way sometimes and now I have a solution. Now, on to the app.
This was the first app that I’ve downloaded that had this warning.

As with anything that has a disclaimer like that, you know its gotta be good.
So yeah, then this warning pops up…

Now this might not seem like a bad idea, but let me show you the fine print.

This may turn some of you off, but its no worse than posting your number on facebook. You have it on there, don’t you? Sinner.
Anyways. If you don’t mind all of that, then you will see this.

As you can see, you just select your gender, enter your name and what you want to talk about, and then tap “Add Me.” (it says Remove in my photo)
You don’t have to enter your phone number, it does that on its own.
After you tap “Add Me,” you will be put on the server for three hours. Now people will be able to find you and send you a text.
If you don’t want to wait for three hours, then you can tap “Text Them!” and this will pop up.

If you want to talk to Matt, from LA, then tap “Yes.”
I have no interest in talking to Matt, from LA, cause’ I’m not a girl and he seems like a douchebag.
I would click “No” and cycle through the prompts until I find someone that I would like to text.
This is the way that the free, or lite, version of the app works. You just keep taping “No” until you find someone.
In the “pro” version, you get to click on the “View All” button and you see this.

This shows you a list of everyone who is on your server. Here, you can see everyone’s area code, name, and what they want to talk about.
I think that this is a lot better than randomly rolling through people that you don’t want to talk to. Mostly because you get people like the guy second from the bottom…there are a lot of people like that on there. Do girls really reply to that? Hmmm, maybe I’ll try it.
So yeah. If you don’t mind randomly picking who you talk to, the lite version is made for you.
If you don’t mind dropping 99 cents on this app, then the pro version is for you. I think that its well worth not having to deal with the annoyance. Just think about all of the crappy apps that you’ve spent more than a dollar on. Am I right?
While using this app, I’ve met some really cool people from all over the USA. Some of them, I still talk to on a regular basis. A dollar well spent, I think.
If you download this app and you like it, let me know! Come back and drop me a comment or just send me an email.
Now get out there and meet some people! At least you don’t have to leave your parent’s basement, right?

Wow, I didn’t know that they took it down. Do you know why? It was a great little app.
