Read a great developer interview concerning the game at Garage Games Blog Developer Interview Series.

Marble Blast Mobile walks a fine balance between being a casual game and keeping elements that immerse more in-depth gamers. I’ve never had the patience (or hand eye coordination) to stick with action-puzzlers, but MBM somehow wrangled me in and I finished the game in one night. It uses some very clever power-ups to keep level design interesting, my favorite being the gyrocopter, which lets you fly your marble short distances. Tapping your marble lets you jump over short obstacles.

The Torque3D engine is the absolute best choice for indie game developers and large-scale projects as well.  Hothead Games used the Torque360 engine for the popular Penny Arcade cross-platform game On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. Toque is a highly scalable engine for any device, proved here on the iPhone.

GarageGames has implemented a perfect control scheme for the iPhone.  There is a hotspot in the lower left corner that allows you to rotate the camera at will around your marble.  I’ve found that If I get my marble going too fast, I can use this hotspot to do a quick-brake.  This has saved my ass quite a few times on levels without walls.

Game play is quick and you don’t spend a lot of time resetting, if you do foul up a complicated maneuver.  Marble Blast Mobile will be tough to beat for other developers trying to add a new spin to the Marble Action Puzzle genre.

Here are a few screen shots of the interface and game play. We highly recommend that you try this game out.

Gameplay

The gameplay screen is tightly configured, and can be confusing to gamers who aren’t used to handling mass amounts of presented data at the same time. The camera hotspot in the lower left is incredibly useful to a skilled player. 3D arrows guide you to jewels that open the exit to each level.  Item count, timer and map live at the top of the screen. Special items are activated by hotspots that appear as you collect them.
